A bit about me
Bass Jack Bolton holds a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice Performance) from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
During his studies, performance highlights included roles in staged productions of Philip Glass’ Orphée (Judge), Iolanthe (Private Willis) and scenes from Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Snug). Jack won the Queensland Conservatorium’s Margaret Nickson Prize for voice and accompaniment in 2021 with pianist Mai-Lien Olsson, was a prize winner at the 2023 and 2025 National Liederfests for the Lieder Society of Victoria, and the winner of the Alton Budd Memorial Award at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts.
In 2022 Jack joined Brisbane’s Voxalis Opera, performing the role of Masetto in scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the company’s season finale, A Celebration of Opera, followed in 2023 by the roles of Giorgio Talbot and Sir Gualtiero Raleigh in The Two Queens, a staging of scenes from Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux. During this time in Brisbane, he also took part in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 iterations of the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program.
He has returned for a second year as a Melba Artist for 2025 and is again the recipient of the John & Elizabeth Wright-Smith Scholarship and the Annie McFarling Opera Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust. Jack was also the recipient of the 2024 Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship with Southern Cross Soloists.
